The 4R100 was used in the f-150, f-250, f-350 and f-450 Super Duty pickup trucks. Ford also was smart enough to put them in the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and several of the larger ford utility vehicles.

Basically this is very structurally sound, with a lot of beef built into the parts. When our 4R100 transmissions are rebuilt, they are updated with a special shift kit or upgrade kit which eliminates all factory problems. Problems such as poor ATF flow under heavy loads which causes major over heating failures and modifying the valve body so the shifts are of the highest quality.

Our low mileage used 4R100 transmissions for sale are all pre tested for over an hour on a transmission dynamometer, insuring you will not have any hot running or cold running surprises for you.

For a mere pittance of money, you can buy a labor warranty with your rebuilt or used transmission. The purpose is simple, if you were to need service on your transmission under warranty, you can take it to any qualified repair shop, and the labor to remove and install your replacement unit is paid in full. In essence giving you a nationwide warranty.

What ever 4R100 transmission you choose, you can bet that our down to earth representatives can explain and advise you as to what type of replacement transmission suits your best interests. Transmission Article: My transmission is mixed with anti freeze/coolant?

Common Question: i know i have to replace my radiator but what i want to know is my transmission okay my van seemed to slip into neutral than kicked into gear and when i stopped i checked an the coolant was full of trans fluid ans the trans fluid was foamy too if i have the radiator changes and the transmission flushed and new fluid put in will my transmission be okay or will i have to have it rebuilt too

Realistic Answer: The proper way to fix a transmission with an internal leak in the radiator where it separates the coolant from the automatic transmission fluid is to replace the radiator. It is possible to ‘get by’ for as long as the engine part of the radiator keeps cooling the motor, by installing an auxiliary external transmission cooler and eliminating the radiator.

Obviously you have to flush the engine and cooling system of oily substances and refill it with a good anti freeze coolant. When it comes to the transmission and flushing the watery ATF out of it, it can become dicey. To put it simply, antifreeze, coolant and/or water mixed into the transmission fluid, subsequently soaking everything in the transmission in some watery fluid is probably one of the worst things that can happen to a transmission.

Using the simplest terms possible, the coolant, antifreeze or water actually causes the bonding agent or glue that allows the clutch linings to separate from the clutch plates and bands. Your only chance at saving your transmission is to have the alien liquids flushed out the day after you notice it. Hopefully it was not in the transmission too long. Unless the car has low mileage and is less than 5 years old, you might as well do it now. Locate a rebuilt transmission from a quality transmission supplier.

Once the soft parts mentioned above become contaminated, it is a matter of time before the tranny quits working. The smart consumer will then buy a rebuilt transmission from GotTransmissions.com and have it installed at the same time you repair the transmission – radiator- water problem. Why have another breakdown in a strange place and have to deal with questionable transmission repair shop? Get it all fixed at the same time and learn how to take care of your car by reading our blog. Helping to prevent these issues from happening.

If you think this is good enough info to pass on, please do so. Subscribe for free to our GotTransmissions.com blog for daily tips and information related to transmissions and similar components.

Evolution of Foreign automatic transmissions technology.

Motorization started in Japan in the 1950s. Although automobile manufacturers were independently promoting research in automatic transmissions, their technological skills were not sufficiently advanced and they were compelled to rely on overseas manufacturers by purchasing finished products or introducing technological expertise. Automakers moved ahead with the full-scale development of automatic transmissions with the establishment of Aisin Warner (currently Aisin AW) and Japan Automatic Transmission Co., Ltd. (currently JATCO), both specialists in the production of automatic transmissions, in the 1970s. Growth and development persisted at a rapid pace as the manufacturers sought to stay in line with social trends and now Japanese products continue to gradually exceed the products of manufacturers overseas in terms of performance, quality and cost.

From the 1970s to the early 1980s
Shortly after the launch of full-scale domestic production with the cooperation of manufacturers overseas, strong demands arose for resource and energy conservation prompted by the oil crisis in 1973, marking the start of technological innovation for the realization of improved fuel efficiency. The shift point was first of all converted to electronic control and a lock-up mechanism was added. Demands then arose for even better fuel efficiency at the time of the second oil crisis, stimulating the development of multi-speed automatic transmission (from 3-speed to 4-speed). The downsizing of vehicles in turn led to the downsizing of automatic transmissions as well as an increase of front-wheel drive vehicles. The number of vehicles equipped with them rapidly expanded in the domestic market as these innovations improved the performance of automatic transmissions. Whereas fewer than 10% of all vehicles were equipped with automatic transmissions in the early 1970s, this rate grew swiftly to more than 50% by the 1980s.

Mid to late 1980’s

Along with the increase of automobiles equipped with automatic transmissions, the demands that drivers had of automatic transmissions also went through a transformation. The popularity of DOHC, turbo and other high performance engines led customers to expect not only easy driving features but also superior drivability combined with high fuel efficiency. This trend initiated the slip control of lock-up clutches and fine- tuned electronic control of clutch clearance and pressure, eventually evolving into the hi -technology integrated control of automatic transmissions coupled with the engine.

All the while, the JR502E, the world’s first electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission, developed by JATCO in 1989, was installed in the Nissan Laurel. The aims of the development of this automatic transmission were outstanding acceleration performance in conjunction with the quiet high-speed running and better fuel economy.
Five-speed automatic transmissions were also released by Mercedes-Benz that year, followed by ZF the next year, marking the advent of the era of multi-speed automatic transmissions.

Meanwhile, in addition to these geared automatic transmissions, gearless drive mechanisms, which had long been the subject of R&D and were partially in use in Europe, were also gradually being adopted at this time for practical use in the domestic market. Starting with the steel-belt CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) Nissan and Suzuki both released automobiles with CVTs in 1992 and Honda mounted a CVT in its compact car Civic in 1995.

Used Transmissions for sale: Low mileage, affordable foreign transmissions.

The best idea for installing a replacement transmission in a foreign car, particularly Japanese cars is a transmission that came out of a car that had a JDM engine in it. What is JDM? JDM is the Japanese Domestic Market. This market is tremendous and a seeming limitless supply of low mileage used transmissions.

The Japanese emission controls standards have been much stricter in Japan and some other foreign countries for over 15 years now. What this does is make the cars in Japan produce more emissions than allowed in Japan by the time the car hits 40,000 miles. So either the cars need a new or rebuilt engine or the car gets traded in for a new car. When the cars get traded in, at least in Japan, they get ‘cut it up‘ into smaller components and pieces and shipped to the USA.

These low mileage products, like transmissions are barely broken in at 40,000 miles. We take advantage of this situation and offer a complete line of JDM used transmissions for almost every Japanese car made. The transmissions, like the engines get put through a rigorous pre testing procedure to make sure the transmission meets or exceeds our (GotEngines.com) expectations before we put a certificate of approval with the transmission to prove our point. We also guarantee every used transmission, in many cases better than our competitors guarantee their rebuilt products to prove our confidence in each of our products.

These are just a few of the reasons GotEngines.com has outperformed the competition for years. The bottom line, from low mileage used transmissions to a custom built transmission for a special purpose, we can provide the best transmissions on the market. They are clean and packed securely and ready for delivery ASAP. Call GotEngines.com now for a free quote.

S-10 Chevy Transmissions for sale-very affordable…

Question: I changed the fluid and filter last summer in my 99. I haven’t checked but I don’t think I have enough miles on it yet to merit another change. Anyways my trans started slipping from 2 – 3 and 3 – 4 a couple of days ago. I checked the fluid level and it is fine but it does have a “stinch” to it.

I haven’t hauled anything too extremely heavy lately imo. Last weekend I hauled a washing maching and a stove to my house but I wouldn’t think that they would’ve put too much of a strain on my transmission.

The truck has approx. 140,000 miles on it. Is this common? Am I going to have to replace/rebuild the tranny in the near future?

The previous owner did pull a trailer and lawn mowers with it. The trans has always acted “funny”. I’ve put around 20,000 miles on it since then though.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answser: I have to preface this with saying that if I can’t personally examine the vehicle, than what I’m about to say is an educated guess. You will have to have it professionally diagnosed. Everything you have mentioned, from the stench of the fluid, to the mileage on the transmission and some of the usage it has had in the past would lead me to believe you probably need some sort of replacement transmission.

As far as I’m concerned, every vehicle needs some transmission cooling help from the factory. In the form of an auxiliary add on transmission cooler. Even if your vehicle has a factory external cooler, it needs a special Tru-Cool brand auxiliary cooler. This is especially true if you haul anything like a trailer with lawn mowers. The extra heat generated by the extra work load on the transmission when hauling stuff breaks down the transmission fluid, thus causing problems to start.

Synthetic fluids rule, in fact they come as standard fills in all cars nowadays. So the first thing is don’t use any other Automatic Transmission Fluid than Pure Synthetic ATF. It takes the heat better. All conventional fluids are null and void now, almost useless in most cars built n the last 20 years.

The 2-3 and 3-4 shift problem indicates the 3rd clutches are burnt up, which is very common in your 4L60-E transmission and also upgradeable in the best transmissions.

Get a professional to re-examine it and make a competent diagnosis. The longer you wait the more likely you will need to know the professionals at GotTransmissions.com @ 866-320-1182. If you need a rebuilt Chevy transmission call us, we have exactly what you are looking for in stock for shipment-ASAP.

2003 Toyota Highlander Transmission Jerking in low gears…

Question: I recently had my engine replaced in my 2003 Toyota HL and within 10 miles, the lower gears would start “jerking.” It is fine when engine is cold (which isn’t long). Tranny fluid replaced. Toyota service (not where I had work done) says that I should drive the car for awhile (months) to “reprogram the transmission to my driving patterns.” What kind of “driving patterns” have to be programmed for a car to “learn” how to go from 1st gear to 4th gear? Any thoughts?

Answer: I’ll cut right to the point. The transmission has two cooler lines. They go from the transmission to the radiator, one line delivering the fluid to the radiator to be cooled down and one line routing it back to the tranny, the cooled down fluid that is. My first thought is that in the act of replacing your engine, a dirty part was rubbed against the open cooler lines, thus scraping off some dirt into the open end of the lines. The dirt probably went right int the valve body of the transmission and stuck the 1-2 accumulator valve.

I have seen that so many times, it seems important to mention it. I always start with the simple possibilities. A dirty valve body is for a professional to fix only. That being said, I would take my vehicle to a competent transmission shop and pay the diagnostic fee to find out what the problem is. It is most likely related to engine swap-over.

You are playing with fire, these are the exact problems that people spend too much time asking people who don’t really know the answer. While you waste time asking unqualified people what is wrong, the transmission is definitely getting worse and at some point you will need a replacement transmission.

Ultimately, wasting time trying to save money will cost you a lot of extra money. Be smart about your transmission or you may need to call GotTransmissions.com @ 866-320-1182 for one of their quality rebuilt Toyota transmissions. Prevent your problem from turning into a multi-thousand dollar issue, seek professional help ASAP.

Transfer cases for sale cheap, shipped ASAP…

If you are having a transfer case problem with your all wheel drive vehicle (AWD) or four wheel drive vehicle (4X4) than you arrived at the right place. Although are name is GotTransmissions.com, we sell transfer cases for every brand of vehicle on the market that uses some sort of power splitter or transfer case assembly. We can provide you with custom transfer case work also, including vintage transfer case repairs.

Basically a transfer case is exactly what it sounds like. At least in automotive terms. It generally bolts to the back of the transmission and allow the power to be split or transferred to both the front axles and the rear axles at the same time when it is engaged.

Some systems automatically deliver a signal to the transfer case via an input sensor system or some sort of activation system or computer, which tracks which wheels may be slipping and instantly applies power to the slipping wheel/s. Other systems require you to push a button which engages the system by an electric motor. The older systems have a lever that is simply pushed into the position you want.

Regardless of the system you may have, we have ready for instant delivery transfer cases for sale in a variety of versions. Our rebuilt transfer cases for sale use new US made bearings and seals and hard parts. Parts like chains, gears and shafts. Pre-tested and Certified. The used transfer cases for sale are low mileage units are nice and clean. Many of them have been ‘split open‘ examined by eye, and if it meets our standards we reseal the area where we split it open and ready it for shipment.

Call GotTransmissions.com for all of your transfer case replacement needs @ 866-320-1182.

Free Transmission Tips and Advise from a Professional….

Reading the GotTransmissions.com blog with any regularity, you probably know I’m a retired transmission shop owner. I have been a transmission rebuilder since about 1976. I opened my shop in 1981 and sold it right before the economy crashed in February 2006. Just because I transmissions does not mean I am engine illiterate. In fact, to successfully diagnose today’s super modern computerized transmissions you have to be an engine expert, a diagnostic master and an encyclpedia of all aspects of a car.

Not to many people can claim to have the credentials to be a qualified transmission diagnostician on the new cars. Transmissions are the most complicated part of your car, especially the newer computerized units.

Now that I blog for a company that I personally endorse, (I won’t BS to you about a truly worthy company) I read forums and other FAQ’s about car transmissions while I’m looking for information or other auto related information for my posts. The worst, least valuable and possibly most harmfully information comes from the wanna be mechanics that don’t have a clue, but like to give advise.

The forums who have moderators that really take a proactive stand on their forums so consumers don’t waste money just changing parts because a carpet salesman said so, are OK with me. I sure would not have been advising the heart surgeon during open heart surgery, if you know what I mean!

Unattended forums or irresponsible forum moderators are the worst place to get advise. A typical question might be “My car started to rev up and slow down”. Anyone help out there?
A typical answer may be: Change the fluid and transmission computer, then put a new muffler bearing on it and change the air in your tires.

So you go buy a computer, install it, and the transmission problem is still there. The computer cost 550.00 dollars and the dealership won’t take it back now, because it is a used electrical part.

Diagnosis is your best friend. Ever heard of it? Doctors diagnose problems first. Even the plumber has to diagnose how to solve a leak or non water issue. Why are people so resistant to automotive diagnosis? So is the mechanic with the $4500.00 Snap-On diagnostic scan tool and many ongoing hours of training supposed to do it for free? It might be free, if they do the work.

The point is that diagnosing a problem with your car transmission ASAP almost always saves big money. While you are taking advise from a well intentioned laymen the car is not getting fixed, I assure you the problem is getting worse. In the end when you finally go to a repair shop and the problem has worsened to degree that you will probably need a rebuilt transmission by then.

Seek professional help. Search our transmission blog for an answer to your question. If you don’t see the answer, ask me in the comment box. If you need a rebuilt transmission because you listened to an amateur fulfill their desires of being a transmission mechanic by diagnosing yours other peoples cars too on the internet, then you deserve it.

In ending, any answer I give you is proven to work, in fact I have used the procedure so I know it works. Just remember, diagnostics rule, don’t fool yourself. GotTransmissions.com @ 866-320-1182
